2001 Natura Gold Coin – Oryx Monarchs of Africa Series

2001 Oryx – Prince of the Kalahari

The 2001 Natura Gold Coin completes the Monarchs of Africa series from the South African Mint and features the powerful Gemsbok, also known as the Oryx. Often referred to as the “Prince of the Kalahari,” this antelope is renowned for its striking appearance and long straight horns.

Struck in 24-carat gold (.9999 fine) and finished to proof standard, the 2001 issue reflects the high quality and craftsmanship associated with the Natura wildlife series. The reverse design depicts the gemsbok in a detailed wildlife portrait, capturing the animal’s strength and adaptation to the harsh desert environment.

The coin was produced in four fractional sizes — 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz — allowing collectors to own the design in various gold weights. The obverse displays South Africa’s national coat of arms together with the denomination.

As the final coin in the Monarchs of Africa trilogy, the 2001 Oryx issue is especially important for collectors completing the full Natura wildlife set. The combination of high gold purity, exceptional wildlife artwork, and limited mintage makes it a desirable collectible among modern South African gold coins.
