The 2005 Natura Gold Coin is the second issue in the Giants of Africa series from the South African Mint and honours the massive Hippopotamus, one of the heaviest land mammals in Africa.

Struck in .9999 fine gold (24-carat) and finished to proof quality, the coin features a detailed depiction of the hippopotamus on the reverse. Known for its powerful jaws and semi-aquatic lifestyle, the hippopotamus is an iconic species of Africa’s rivers and wetlands.

The Natura wildlife programme is highly regarded among collectors for its artistic wildlife themes and limited mintages.
