2019 Natura Gold Coins – Palaeontology: Archosauria Continuation

he 2019 Natura Gold Coins continue the Rise of the Dinosaurs – Archosauria palaeontology theme from the South African Mint, following the successful 2018 launch. Like the previous year, the series highlights prehistoric archosauriforms — the ancient relatives of dinosaurs, crocodiles and pterosaurs — that walked the lands of present‑day South Africa.

Struck in 24‑carat gold (.9999 fine) and finished to a high proof standard, the 2019 issues were available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz denominations. Each gold coin retains the same detailed obverse motif depicting the fossilised remains of Erythrosuchus africanus, with the “Rise of the Dinosaurs”, “Archosauria” legends and MMXIX date. Collectors appreciate the continuity of the palaeontology theme as the design and scientific focus reinforce South Africa’s importance in understanding early reptilian evolution.
