This coin is forms part of the Natura series and released by the South African Mint.
The series, Nocturnal hunters, was introduced in 2014 and the first predator to feature on the coins was the leopard. The black-backed jackal was featured in the 2015 release. In 2016 the spotted (or laughing) hyena (Crocuta crocuta) rounded off the series.
