In 2019, the mint launched a new series of silver coins focusing on the so-called Big Five native animals on the African continent.
The Big Five Series of silver coins originates at the South African Mint and depicts five unique species native to the African continent. The five animals depicted in this collection are considered the hardest to hunt on foot and are, in some cases, among the most deadly predators in the world.
The African Cape Buffalo is the last of the animals featured on this popular Big 5 coin series since its debut in 2019.
