2010 Natura Gold Coin – Black Rhinoceros (Safari Through Africa)
The 2010 Natura Gold Coin completes the Safari Through Africa series issued by the South African Mint. This issue honours the endangered Black Rhinoceros, one of Africa’s most powerful and rare wildlife species.
Struck in 24-carat gold (.9999 fine) and finished in proof quality, the coin reflects the exceptional craftsmanship associated with the Natura wildlife coin programme. The reverse design portrays the black rhinoceros in impressive detail, emphasizing its distinctive hooked lip and powerful build.
As the second and final coin in the Safari Through Africa series, the 2010 Black Rhinoceros issue is particularly important for collectors completing the two-coin set.
Like other Natura proof gold coins, the issue was released in four sizes — 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz, allowing collectors to acquire the design in various gold weights while maintaining the same detailed wildlife artwork.
Because of its conservation theme, high gold purity, and limited mintage, the 2010 Black Rhinoceros coin remains a popular collectible among South African coin collectors and wildlife series enthusiasts.
The Natura Prestige Set consists of four 24 karat gold coins (1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz) packaged together in a box made from either “Kiaat” or “Imbuya” wood. In addition, each set has a plaque featuring the name “Natura Prestige Set” as well as the year “2009” and the individual number of the set.
