1 oz, Australia, 2024, Platinum - Koala

1 oz, Australian, 2024, Platinum, 100 Dollars - Koala.  Features one of Australia’s favourite animals, the Australian Koala

Since 2007, the Perth Mint has introduced "Koala" coin series.

Each year, a new coin is released featuring a different depiction of this animal on the reverse.

This year's design showcases a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

When early European settlers first encountered koalas in Australia, they mistakenly believed these tree-dwelling creatures were either monkeys or bears. Koalas have distinct physical traits that help them thrive in their arboreal environment. Their ability to grasp branches and select eucalyptus leaves, along with their tough skin and sharp claws, provide excellent grip for climbing. With dense, thick fur, they can comfortably sit on branches for long periods. These unique Australian animals make an ideal symbol of Australia's wildlife in the coin series.
