An interesting fact about these pieces is that they were rendered to solicit business and described as salesman examples.

Wolfgang Lauer(from Nurenberg) prepared the dies and no accurate figures on mintage are known.

Reportedly struck at the Berlin Mint. All were struck in bronze although a piece in aluminium has been reported.

Two varieties of reverse exist. One is as per the picture and the other is identical to that of the plain shield coin. For a description of the other variety see the description for the plain shield coin variety.

The reverse as displayed above features a laurel wreath enclosing the inscription "1 PENNY". The word "PENNY" is underlined by the inscription "LLC".

There are varieties in bronze and Nickel-plated (copper).
