2017 Silver Britannia 1oz Fine Silver Coin. In 2017, the Royal Mint re-issued the anniversary design of the 1997 silver ounce (also issued in 1999), known as The Charioteer, where Britannia is depicted standing whilst driving a two-horse chariot in the manner of the warrior queen Boudicca (Boadicea).

Britannia, the female personification of the British Isles, takes her name from an ancient term for Great Britain and has been a popular figure since the 1st century when she was first depicted on Roman coinage under the rule of Emperor Hadrian. Illustrated as a goddess, Britannia resembles the Roman figure Boudica.
Britannia first appeared on British coins in 1672, when she graced the farthing. The first Britannia bullion was first minted in 1987.
