The King George VI series(1937-1952) is the second series of the Union of South Africa (1910-1960). As with the KGV series, the coins were identical in size and value to the coinage of Britain.
The obverse features the uncrowned head of the monarch. The reverse designs were a continuation of the designs of the KGV series by Kruger Gray.
The reverse design for the new denominations of 5 Shillings, 1/2 Pound and Pound was done by Coert Steynberg, with a special Cape Town founding anniversary reverse design by Marion Walgate for the 1952 5 Shillings.
