Part of a 4-coin series produced by the Portuguese State Mint, commemorating the 500-year anniversary of Bartolomeu Dias' discovery of a sea passage to the Indies around the Cape of Good Hope in 1488.

Coin 1 in the series commemorates Gil Eanes' rounding of Cape Bojador in 1434.

Each coin has a face value of 100 escudos, is produced in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality Sterling Silver, and weighs 16.5gm.
